Alcassoft Successfully Deploys Community Portal System
Alcassoft has successfully deployed the beta version of a community portal, geared towards parents and educators for US-based Parents Orbit LLC.
This feature-packed portal goes beyond the usual forums and blogs – it allows parents and their children’s educators to stay constantly in touch with their ‘networks’ via sms, online messaging and also an internal chat engine. Networks are groups, either virtual (i.e. existing in cyberspace) or physical, usually formed by an educator, i.e. a school-teacher, a karate class teacher, girl-scout groups, or anyone who educates children and needs to communicate with the parents.
Members in these networks can organise events or parties, send out invitations, receive RSVPS, even arrange for help from other members, all through this online portal. There is also an ‘Ask your neighbor’ feature, where parents can post their need for babysitters or carpooling, and get responses from other members living nearby, for example. The internal calendar feature allows parents to easily switch on and off their view of events – for each network or child, local and public events, events they have been invited to attend, as well as their personal to-do items.
Samir Jusic, Chief Technology Officer at Alcassoft says, “We think we have successfully translated our client’s vision into a fully workable system that is both feature-packed and easy-to-use, which is, in itself, no mean feat. This was a great opportunity for us, working with a US-based organisation. Of course, our relationship doesn’t stop here – we are constantly monitoring and fine-tuning the system to match the needs of the system which is constantly growing in its user-base.”
Says Gelveen Gill, one of the owners of Parents Orbit LLC, “In the United States, where there are a number of similar portals in operation, ours really stands out for its features, it’s clean look and very easy-to-use interface. We are very happy with the system, and are currently in the process of actively ‘recruiting’ members to form their online networks. The next step will be to launch the portal in a big way – we can’t wait!”
The Parents Orbit portal is at www.parentsorbit.com.
